As I’ve been admiring the stunning creations of the world’s most influential fashion designers during this year’s spring/summer shows of Paris Fashion Week, I started thinking about all the past fashion trends that disappeared as quickly as they came. Some would explain this by simply saying that the world of fashion wouldn’t be as exciting as it is without all of the new ideas and directions that the boldest designers dare take.
Yes, it’s all true – new clothing collections take our breath away, but I believe that no modern piece can overshadow a classic one. If you disagree with me on this one, then you should ask yourself whether your wardrobe would be complete without an elegant little black dress, a flattering pencil skirt, a carefully chosen cream trench coat, and a beautiful wide brim hat. Yup, that’s what I thought.
Since I’m a huge hat lover, I decided to talk about the timeless beauty of one of my favourite accessories – the wide brim hat. Although the first straw wide brim hats for women were introduced in the 18th century and were seen as a symbol of wealth, it was in the early 1930’s when women began using them as stylish summer head-wear. Their popularity has never stopped growing ever since. Let me tell you why.
A classic wide brim hat can tastefully complement and enrich both casual everyday outfits and formal ones, whereas the combination of, for example, a chic dress and a beanie hat is a big fashion no-no. Beanies are a part of the so called street style, which means that teenagers and young adults who cultivate a playful, messy personal style are their biggest fans. Now, I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I must say that a woman with a refined taste in clothes would never pick a beanie over a wide brim hat.
Whenever you are all dressed up, but it still feels like something is missing, your wide brim hat can come to your rescue. Another time when gorgeous wide brim hats for women can save your day is when your hair is having a bad one. Think about it: this accessory not only will cover your untamed hair, but it will also make your look much more interesting and appealing. Trust me, there’s no way you can make a mistake by buying a wide brim hat.
Let me finish this article with one last piece of advice: love the way you look and wear your clothes (and accessories, of course) with unbreakable confidence.
