Hallway Tables: The Wood vs Glass Fable

ByJessie Sanner

There are certain areas in every home that simply invite you to stop for a while and admire the beauty of all the pieces that are perfectly put together to create such an interior design bliss. And the truth is, in every well designed home, details matter big time! Some are personal and evoke special memories, some are prominent and add more drama to the space, while others are small and seemingly insignificant yet have a major effect on the ambiance.

Probably the most overlooked area in every home is the hallway, as this space is usually regarded solely as a pathway to get you from room A to B. All you need to spice its look and make it more inviting are just a few style elements – a decorative accent like a flower arrangement, a runner rug to lead the way down the hall, a proper lighting to lighten the path, and some decoration in the form of artwork or a mirror at the end of the hallway to direct the eye and create a destination. And let’s not forget about probably the biggest and most important style element that adds functionality to these rather small spaces – the hallway table. In this post we’ll outline the pros and cons of the two most commonly used materials for these small pieces of art: wood and glass. Time for some interior design magic.

Wooden tables: charm and warmth

A wooden hallway table reflects warmth, comfort and elegance and can easily enhance the aesthetic appeal of a space. The wood can be carved in an interesting pattern or have a smooth natural finish. It is a durable and long lasting material which is easy to clean and will last you for decades. Some types are prone to scratches so they will need to be refinished from time to time. To give your entry a chic and modern look, go for a wooden table with a darker finish and a more distinctive grain. If, however, you’re more into the traditional or rustic design, a lighter grain colour with natural wood pattern would be the ideal choice.

Glass tables: dimension and simplicity

The beauty of a transparent glass table is its ability to blend perfectly well with the surroundings, which means, it can complement pretty much any décor style. Glass has a simple and clean look, adds more dimension and when paired with a few mirrors it can make a small hallway appear larger and more airy. Most hallway tables are made from tempered glass which is a material that has been thermally and chemically treated to enhance its strength. Keep in mind that glass is more likely to get damaged and can be easily broken. Take into account the look you want to create in your hallway and choose accordingly.

The confusion with having to choose between things is what helps her write for the blog, in the hope of making it easier for readers who are indecisive themselves.
